MISSION
The Research Biobank was established as a platform for the collection, storage, and distribution of human biological samples and associated clinical data for medical research purposes. Its activities are carried out in line with the strategy of the Padua University Hospital (Azienda Ospedale-Università Padova, AOUP), which integrates patient care, education, and research as inseparable components of its mission.

The Biobank is a service dedicated to the collection, storage, and distribution of human biological samples and their associated data, in accordance with quality standards shared at both the national and international levels.
Since 1991, several departments and services within the Padua University Hospital have maintained collections of biological samples. Their collection and management have always been carried out in accordance with the general principles of the law, with particular regard to patients' informed consent and the non-commercial nature of biological sample donation.
The Padua Biobank was formally established in 2020 by bringing together biological sample and blood-derived collections from various departments of the Padua University Hospital, some of which have been active since 1991. The Research Biobank of the Padua University Hospital was officially established by Resolution of the Director General No. 1822 of 22 December 2020, with the aim of creating and organizing a centralized biobank for the storage and management of biological material collected for research purposes.
The Biobank is a centralized facility for the collection and storage of valuable biological samples, established in response to the need for a certified, reliable, and validated system for preserving a wide range of biological specimens while maintaining their biomolecular characteristics. The stored biological samples may be included in clinical studies and research projects approved by the Scientific Committee.
The Biobank is a non-profit facility established with the aim of preserving biological material for research purposes. It is owned by the Padua University Hospital, which is responsible for its operation and management in compliance with current legislation and carries out its activities through a dedicated team.
The Padua University Hospital may also provide storage services for its own biological samples as well as for samples belonging to third-party institutions, subject to the signing of a specific agreement.
