Inflammatory bowel disease
Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases are diseases with a “multifactorial” genesis that are still partially known. Over the last 30 years, the global prevalence of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases has increased by 85%, with a number of patients of approximately 7 million worldwide. It is estimated that in Italy approximately 250,000 people are currently affected by these pathologies.
Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases affect the female sex with a slightly higher frequency than the male sex, with a clinical onset that generally occurs between the ages of 15 and 45.
The University Hospital Biobank of Padova processes and stores samples of tumor tissue and healthy counterparts, together with the respective blood products, according to its Operating Procedures, updated to the most recent national and international regulatory and scientific developments. The clinical data of patients related to the samples are continuously updated following the follow-up of the cases treated.
